Allen Gilchrest became the Head Coach for Limestone's swimming programs in April 2007 after serving as the Saints assistant coach for a season. Gilchrest’s prior college coaching experience includes roles as a volunteer assistant coach for the University of Maryland (NCAA Division I), Washington College (Division III) in Chestertown, Md., Bethany College in Bethany, N.Y. (Division III), and Hamilton College (NCAA Division III). At Washington College, he was responsible for pre- and post-seasoning conditioning for the swimmers, and designed and supervised swimming and dry-land workouts. He also helped with recruiting. At Bethany, he assisted in practice planning, scheduling and swimmer development while helping with travel arrangements and athlete conditioning. He also assisted the coach at Hamilton with conditioning and instruction. He also has much experience as a the head coach for several club teams, including the Maverick Swim Club in Landover, Md., the Shomen Aquatics Swim Club in Chestertown, Md., and the Clinton Cudas Swim Club in Clinton, N.Y. While working for these swim clubs, Gilchrest oversaw assistant coaches, coordinated team travel, and implemented swim workouts. Gilchrest attended Rowan University in Glassboro, N.J., where he earned his bachelor’s in Political Science. While at Rowan, his team earned an eighth place finish at the NCAAs, broke three school relay records and was a two-time NCAA B-cut qualifier from 1997-99. Prior to Rowan, Gilchrest competed at Kutztown University, where he was named Rookie of the Year following the 1994-95 season and was an NCAA B-cut Qualifier in the 1996-97 season. Gilchrest also earned his master’s degree in American History from Washington College in 2003. He resides is Kings Mountain, N.C., with his wife, Liz. |
