Heather Sulkowski is entering her first season at Limestone College as the assistant volleyball coach under the direction of head coach Tim Loesch. Sulkowski is quite familiar with the teaching techniques of Loesch, as he coached her during her final two seasons at Peace College. Sulkowski comes to Limestone after five successful seasons as head volleyball coach at Peace College in Raleigh, N.C., where she also held the duties of Senior Woman Administrator and Sports Information Director. In addition, she served as assistant basketball coach, Fellowship of Christian Athletes sponsor, Student Athlete Advisory Committee sponsor, Student Intervention Team sponsor and Athletic Operations Manager at her alma mater. While coaching at Peace from 2002-2006, Sulkowski's teams constantly improved and were consistently competitive. She worked hard to get the program back to the level of success she experienced there as a player. Her first season coaching was a rebuilding year, followed by the school's debut as a USA South Athletic Conference member, the first all female institution in North Carolina ever to do so. In Sulkowski's final three years, she coached Peace to at least 12 wins every season, along with a fourth and sixth place finish in the highly competitive USA South. During her coaching tenure at Peace, Sulkowski's players set numerous school records, earned several All-Tournament awards, were named to the All-Conference team twice, and ten athletes earned Academic All-Conference awards. She leaves a strong nucleus of returning players for her incumbent as well as a solid list of commitments for the 2007 season. Sulkowski was a two sport star at Manteo High School in Manteo, N.C., where she was named First Team All-Conference and team MVP all four years in volleyball and basketball. She received the Manteo Female Athlete of the Year Award from 1993-1996. Her ability on the court earned her a scholarship in both sports to play at Barton College. She started in both sports as a true freshman, earning the Coaches Award during the best season ever for Barton volleyball. She also received the William Gear Spencer Award honoring her athletic success in multiple sports and in the classroom. As a sophomore, Sulkowski was named CVAC All-Conference in volleyball and CVAC All-Tournament team in basketball. She finished her collegiate athletic career at Peace College where she played volleyball for two seasons and basketball for one season, earning MVP honors in both sports. She captained the volleyball team to consecutive winning seasons and set many statistical records, while earning a degree in psychology. At the conclusion of her playing career, Sulkowski was awarded the Frazier Cup, the award presented to the most outstanding athlete at Peace College. |
