PESCE NAMED CONFERENCE CAROLINAS PLAYER OF THE YEAR AS 8 MORE LADY SAINTS EARNED ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS; TUCKER NAMED COACH OF THE YEAR |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone College’s Marissa Pesce (West Babylon, N.Y.) was named Conference Carolinas women’s lacrosse Player of the Year and Lady Saints Head Coach Scott Tucker was named conference Coach of the Year at the 2008 women’s lacrosse championship banquet on Saturday. Eight more Lady Saints were named to All-Conference teams.
Pesce also earned First Team honors along with Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada), Chrissy Grogg (Taberg, N.Y.), and Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.)
Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.), Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.), Summer Ferraro (East Setauket, N.Y.), and Erin Growney (Rochester, N.Y.) were named Second Team All-Conference. |

This is the third time Tucker has earned conference Coach of the Year honors as he took home the award in 2004 and 2006. In his seven years at Limestone, the Lady Saints have produced five consecutive regular season conference championships. Tucker posts a career record of 106-40 (.726) and holds a Limestone record of 85-28 (.753).

One of the fastest players on the team, Pesce has scored 27 goals and tallied 3 assists for 30 points this year. She is second on the team with 11 caused turnovers. She also posts 17 ground balls and 17 draw controls. Pesce scored a season-high five goals versus Queens.

Lickert leads the Lady Saints with 49 points from 25 goals and 24 assists. She has 14 ground balls and 7 caused turnovers this year. She has a season-high eight points versus Queens and then recorded six points against Belmont Abbey. Lickert earned conference Players of the Week honors earlier this spring.

Ilott leads the team with 31 goals and 37 draw controls. She posted six draw controls versus Queens and had five against Belmont Abbey. She also posts five assists, 17 ground balls, and five caused turnovers this year.

Grogg has a team-high 17 caused turnovers. She had three-goal performances versus Dowling and Pfeiffer, and scored four goals against St. Andrews. Grogg has 12 goals and 8 assists for 20 points this year to go along with 25 ground balls and 13 draw controls.

Cavanaugh ranks top 10 in NCAA Division II with an 8.47 GAA and a .517 save percentage. She posted a season-high 13 saves in Limestone’s win over Lock Haven. She has 119 saves in 2008 with a 13-1 record.

Howard was also named Inside Lacrosse NCAA Division II Player of the Week earlier this year. She has 19 goals and 26 assists for 45 points. Howard has 14 ground balls, 9 draw controls, and 2 caused turnovers.

Wise had four-goal performances against St. Andrews and Queens this spring. She has 34 points from 25 goals and 9 assists. She has 10 ground balls, 17 draw controls, and 7 caused turnovers.

Ferraro had five hat tricks this year against Queens, Pfeiffer, Lees-McRae, Belmont Abbey, and St. Andrews. She has scored 25 goals this spring and tallied 5 assists for 30 points. She has won 19 draw controls, picked up 26 ground balls, and caused 8 turnovers.

Growney, one of Limestone’s best one-on-one defenders, leads the Lady Saints defenders in draw controls with 22. She posts 12 ground balls and 9 caused turnovers this season. Growney also scored a goal versus Lees-McRae.
