LIMESTONE DEFEATS DOWLING 16-8; TUCKER GETS 100TH CAREER COACHING WIN

GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone College head women’s lacrosse coach Scott Tucker picked up his 100th career victory as the No. 2-ranked Lady Saints defeated Dowling College 16-8 on Thursday afternoon at Saints Field. Tucker’s record stands at 100-40 (.714). Limestone’s season record climbs to 7-1 as the Golden Lions slip to 3-1.

Eleven Limestone players scored in the win. Chrissy Grogg (Taberg, N.Y.) had three goals, as Melissa Howard (Ferndale, Md.), Terri George (Jordan, N.Y.), and Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) recorded two goals apiece. Kelly Lickert (Penn Yan, N.Y.), Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.), Aricka Piersma (Columbia, S.C.), Kelly Oterson (Islip Terrace, N.Y.), Kristen DeMarzi (Huntington, N.Y.), Dani Tosky (Bluffton, S.C.), and Shea Farrell (Blue Point, N.Y.) also contributed goals.

Howard dished out a game-high four assists, as Lickert tallied two and Wise recorded one.

Ilott and George each had three draw controls. Grogg had a game-high four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Goalkeeper Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.) had five saves in the first 46 minutes, while Michaela Reynolds (Columbia, Md.) had one save in the final 14 minutes.

Dowling’s Kelly Cefalu (East Islip, N.Y.) and Cassandra Cronin (Islip Terrace, N.Y.) both scored two goals. Pamela McGirr (Copiague, N.Y.), Samantha Messineo (Shirley, N.Y.), and Brianna Falese (Centereach, N.Y.) also scored. Cefalu and McGirr each tallied an assist.

Cefalu had a game-high seven draw controls and caused two turnovers. Goalkeeper Rachel Goldstein (Ridge, N.Y.) had three ground balls and 14 saves for the Golden Lions.

The Lady Saints led 6-3 at halftime, and outscored Dowling 10-5 in the second period for the victory. Limestone had 37 shots to the Golden Lions’ 19, and had 19 ground balls to the visitors’ 8. Dowling won 15 of the contest’s 26 draw controls.

Limestone hosts Lees-McRae on Saturday, March 29 at 11 a.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney, S.C. March 29 will also be Senior Day for the Lady Saints as the team recognizes Terri George, Carolina Pickell, Aricka Piersma, Summer Ferraro, Marissa Pesce, and Erin Cavanaugh.

Dowling travels to play Molloy on Wednesday, March 26 at 3:30 p.m. in Rockville Centre, N.Y.
