RESULTS FROM DAY 1 OF AGNES MCAMIS INVITATIONAL

GREENEVILLE, Tenn.—The Limestone College women’s golf team carded 338 in the opening round of the 2008 Agnes McAmis Memorial, held this week at the par 72, 5,804-yard Link Hills Country Club.

Katie Clayton (Lyman, S.C.) leads the Lady Saints with a score of 77 and is in ninth place. Samantha Allison (Jeanette, Pa.) is 31st (83), Ansley Smith (Blythewood, S.C.) is 44th (87), and Miranda Van Arsdale (Hendersonville, N.C.) is 61st (91).

The Belmont Abbey women’s golf team shot a tournament record 299 to lead the 13-team field. The Crusaders lead by six shots over second place Pfeiffer (305) and 11 strokes ahead of Wingate (310).  Shorter is fourth with 323, followed by Anderson (325), tournament host Tusculum (326), Catawba (329), Queens University of Charlotte (336), Limestone (338), Lincoln Memorial (343), UNC Pembroke (346), Spartanburg Methodist (348) and Mars Hill (351).

It was a record-breaking day as Shorter’s Daniela Vargas posted a three-under par 69 to take the lead after the opening round.  Vargas score is the lowest first round tally in the 11-year history of the tournament and matches the 69 posted by Tusculum’s Amanda Bowen at last year’s event.

One of the highlights of the day came from LMU’s Sarah Oswalt-MacNeill when she scored a hole-in-one on the 16th hole with a seven wood from 147 yards.

The final round of the tournament will begin on Tuesday at 8 a.m.
