LIMESTONE WINS WOMEN’S LACROSSE CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT CHAMPIONSHIP; ALL-TOURNAMENT TEAM ANNOUNCED |
Belmont Abbey had a 3-1 lead with 13 minutes left in the first half, but Limestone scored three goals in the remaining minutes for a narrow 4-3 lead at halftime. The Lady Saints outscored the Abbey 5-1 in the second period for the victory. Limestone outshot the Crusaders 23-17 and edged Belmont Abbey 12-11 in ground balls. The Lady Saints were 19-22 on clears and Belmont Abbey was 12-14. The Crusaders won 10 of the contest’s 15 draw controls. Lady Saint goalkeeper Erin Cavanaugh (Ellicott City, Md.) led Limestone with three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Katie Ilott (Whitby, Ontario, Canada) scored four goals, while Lauryn Wise (Pasadena, Md.) tallied a hat trick. Shannon Farden (Oswego, N.Y.) and Laurie Jordan (Davidsonville, Md.) scored two goals apiece for the Abbey. Amanda Jones (Owen Sound, Ontario, Canada) recorded three draw controls. Farden and Theresa Nolan (Crofton, Md.) each picked up three ground balls. Goalkeeper Kate Gavin (Pasadena, Md.) had 11 saves. The Lady Saints head to New York next weekend for their last two regular season games on Long Island. Limestone will face Gannon on Saturday, April 26 at 2 p.m. in Oakdale, N.Y., and then will play Seton Hill on Sunday at 11 a.m. in Long Island, N.Y. The Conference Carolinas All-Tournament team was announced following today’s championship. Erin Growney from Limestone College was named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player.
