LADY SAINTS TRACK ADDS 7 SOLID RECRUITS

GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone Track and Field Head Coach Kevin Vees has announced the signing of seven student-athletes to the women’s track & field team. Meagan Rodrigues (Manchester Township, N.J.), Samantha McGowan (Citrus Springs, Fla.), Catherine Tate (Blacksburg, S.C.), Brittny Shelton (Blacksburg, S.C.), Jenny Altieri (Kent Island, Md.), Anisha Barbee (Madison, Tenn.), and Theresa Braecklein (Walterboro, S.C.) will join the Lady Saints track and field team for the 2008-09 season.

Meagan Rodrigues currently runs for Manchester Township High School in New Jersey.  She will compete in the 100 meter and 200 meter and will compete in the javelin and the hammer events.  She is looking at majoring in physical education or athletic training at the College.

Samantha McGowan will be joining her fellow teammate Mary Ann Bruno from Lecanto High School in Florida.  McGowan is a very talented athlete who participated in three sports in high school:  track and field, volleyball, and weightlifting.  She recently qualified for the Florida state track and field championships in the long jump and just missed placing by two and ¾ inches.  She will compete in the long jump, triple jump, and pole vault for the Lady Saints.  McGowan will major in athletic training.

Catherine Tate comes to Limestone from Blacksburg High School.  She competes in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 4 x 1 relay, and the discus.  This year at the region meet, she ran a 13.13 to qualify her for the class AA Upper State meet.  She is a great student-athlete with a cumulative GPA of a 3.915 and has made the honor roll consistently.  She is be studying Biology in the fall.            

Brittny Shelton is also coming to Limestone from Blacksburg High School.  She will be a thrower for Limestone.  This past season, she qualified for the region meet in the shot put and discus.  She will get to learn two new throwing events in the fall with the addition of javelin and the hammer throw.  Shelton has been on the honor roll and is part of the Beta Club, Cherokee Junior Leadership, and the Student Council at Blacksburg High School.  She is undecided about her major.

Jenny Altieri comes to Limestone after a very successful four-year career at Kent Island High School in Maryland.  She runs indoor and outdoor track and competes in cross country.  Her personal record for the 300 meter hurdles is 46.3 and is 15.4 for the 100 meter hurdles.  In cross country, she hit a personal record of a 21:00 for the 5k.  Jenny will be a multi-event athlete as she is really good at the short distance and long distance events.  Altieri will be studying athletic training this fall. 

Anisha “Bri” Barbee is a very talented sprinter.  She currently runs track for Hunters Lane High School where she competes in the 100 meter, 200 meter, 400 meter, and the 4 x 1 relay.  She recently placed second at the Nashville Track & Field Championships in the 400 meter running a time of 59.32.  Not only is Barbee a solid athlete, but she has accomplished a lot in the classroom.  She currently has an overall GPA of a 3.863 and belongs to the Beta Club, Mu Alpha Theta, and the National Honor Society.  She plans on majoring in pre-med at Limestone. 

Theresa Braecklein comes to Limestone from Colleton County High School.  She will be adding some depth to the Lady Saints’ middle and long distance events.  She will likely run the 800 meter, 1500 meter, and 3k next spring.  She will also be part of the cross country team in the fall.  Braecklein will study psychology.
