SAINTS TRACK & FIELD SIGNS FOUR

GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone track and field head coach Kevin Vees has announced the signing of four student-athletes to the women’s track and field team. Brittany Jefferson (Summerville, S.C.), Shamaka Adams (Gaffney, S.C.), Mary Ann Bruno (Beverly Hills, Fla.), and Amanda Clausing (Miamisburg, Ohio) will join the Lady Saints for the 2008-09 season.

Brittany Jefferson currently runs for Stratford High School’s program and competes in the 100 meter hurdles, 400 meter hurdles, long jump, and triple jump. In 2007, she was the South Carolina 4A State Champion in the 100 meter hurdle with a time of 14.86 and is looking to repeat her performance in this year's state championships.  Jefferson will be studying business and finance at Limestone in the fall.

Shamaka Adams is coming to Limestone from local track and field powerhouse Gaffney High School.  Adams runs the 100 meters, 200 meters, 400 meters, 4 x 100 and 4 x 400 meter relay.  She is an all around leader and was named the track team’s captain for four years.  She is also a great student as she currently holds a 3.45 GPA.  She will be studying math and would like to become a math professor when she graduates from Limestone.

Mary Ann Bruno will be heading to Limestone from Lecanto High School in Florida where she competed in the 100 hurdles, 300 hurdles, and in the 4x400 relay.  She will compete in the 100 and 400 hurdles for Limestone next spring.  Bruno will study athletic training.

Amanda Clausing is a three sport athlete from Miamisburg High School in Ohio.  She runs cross country, track, and plays basketball.  Her personal best for the 5k is 20:33 and she also runs the 2k steeplechase in track with a personal best time of 9:35.  The steeplechase is not sponsored in many states so she will be a great talent for the Lady Saints to have.  Clausing will study math.

“These four you women are a great start to what looks like will be a solid recruiting class for the brand new track and field team that will start this coming academic year,” commented Vees. “These women are not only great athletes and leaders but will do very well in the classroom.”

The Saints track & field teams will begin competition in the spring of 2009. The program will be one of only four NCAA Division II programs in South Carolina and will compete in the Conference Carolinas.
