LIMESTONE’S 400 FREESTYLE RELAY TEAM FINISHES SECOND ON FINAL DAY OF NCAA SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS |
COLUMBIA, Mo.—The Limestone College men’s swim team finished 9th at the 2008 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships on Saturday evening. The Saints' 400 freestyle relay team was Limestone’s top finisher for the day as Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa), Chris Harrigan (Greenville, S.C.), Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden), and Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia) finished second in the finals with a time of 2:59:48. The 400 freestyle relay squad’s time set a new Bluegrass Mountain Conference open record. In the Saturday evening finals, Donna Wickham (Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago) finished 17th in the 200 backstroke with the time of 2:09.40. Jordens was ninth in the 100 freestyle (44.93), and Melin took 16th (46.51). Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa) finished 10th in the 200 breaststroke with his time of 2:04.97, and set a new school record. In the day’s preliminaries, McKenzie finished 10th in the 200 breaststroke a time of 2:05.33. The 400 freestyle relay team of Jordens, Harrigan, Melin, and Majlat were seated first for the finals with their time of 3:02.03 in the preliminaries. Melin swam the 100 freestyle in 45.55 for 14th. Harrigan took 25th in the men’s 100 freestyle preliminary (46.19), and Majlat was 20th (45.88). Linvern Lim (Port Dixon, Malaysia) had a school record time of 1:53.44 to take 20th in the 200 backstroke. The 2008 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, co-hosted by the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Missouri, was held at the Mizzou Aquatics Center. |
