LIMESTONE 200 FREE RELAY TEAM WINS ON DAY 2 OF NCAA DIVISION II SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS |
COLUMBIA, Mo.—The Limestone College men’s swim team claimed the 200-yard freestyle relay national championship title with a first-place finish in Thursday night’s final at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Division Championships. Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa), Chris Harrigan (Greenville, S.C.), Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden), and Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia) combined to win the event with a time of 1:20.69. This is the first national title for Limestone’s swimming program. The Saints’ 200 freestyle relay team’s time on Thursday evening tied the national record set by the University of North Dakota in 2007 and is a new Limestone school record. The Saints are in sixth place with 120 points after 20 events. Drury University is first (233), the University of North Dakota is second (160), followed by West Chester University (144.5), Ouachita Baptist University (139), and Missouri S&T. Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa) took 13th (4:04.17) in the 400 individual medley finals. Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa) was ninth in the 100 butterfly finals (49.82). Limestone's 400 medley relay team of Linvern Lim (Port Dixon, Malaysia), McKenzie, Parsonage, and Jordens took ninth (3:21.96), which broke the Limestone record and set a new Bluegrass Mountain Conference open record. Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia) finished 20th in the 400 individual medley (4:11.15).
McKenzie took 15th (4:06.76) in the 400 individual medley preliminaries. Parsonage was 11th in the 100 butterfly (50.18) and Lim was 23rd (51.20). Jordens was 26th in the 200 free (1:41.80) while Melin was 40th (1:43.52). The 2008 NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships, co-hosted by the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Missouri, is being held at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.
