LIMESTONE RESULTS FROM DAY 1 OF NCAA DIVISION II SWIMMING & DIVING CHAMPIONSHIPS

COLUMBIA, Mo.—The Limestone College men’s swimmers had several solid performances on their first day of competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships. As a team, the Saints are in fifth place after the first nine events. The competition, co-hosted by the Missouri University of Science and Technology and the University of Missouri, is being held at the Mizzou Aquatics Center.

In the 50 freestyle finals, Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa) and Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia) finished fourth and fifth, respectively. Jordens had a time of 20.33 while Majlat’s time was 20.34. Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa) took 15th in the 200 individual medley finals (1:53.60). Limestone's 200 medley relay team of Anders Melin, McKenzie, Matt Parsonage, and Jordens set a new Bluegrass Mountain Conference open record with a time of 1:31.10 and finished ninth.

Drury State is in first place among the 23 teams (105 points). Ouachita Baptist University is second (68), the University of North Dakota is third (60), followed by West Chester University (60). Limestone rounds out the top five with 49 points.

In the day’s preliminaries, Majlat  tied for third in the 50 free (20.32) and set a new Limestone record. Jordens swam the same event in 20.34 for fifth. McKenzie  posted a time of 1:53.51 in the 200 individual medley for 15th place and to set a new school record. Linvern Lim (Port Dixon, Malaysia), Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia), Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa), and Majlat qualified for 12th place in the 200 medley relay and tied the current Limestone record of 1:33.26.

Limestone continues competition at the NCAA Division II Swimming and Diving Championships on Thursday.
