LIMESTONE GETS 3-0 SHUTOUT AGAINST QUEENS

GAFFNEY, S.C.--  Limestone College recorded its third shutout of the season as it defeated Conference Carolinas rival Queens 3-0 on Saturday afternoon at Saints Field. The Saints improve to 7-1-1 overall and 2-1-1 in conference play as the Royals slip to 5-2-1 (2-1-1 conference).

“I was very pleased with the way we came out and got control of the match early,” commented Limestone Head Coach Eric Alsop. “We had a great team effort—we had guys playing with injuries and players sitting out, and everyone stepped up and got the job done. Today’s effort was a good response to the Mount Olive result.”

Joel Moran (Kinross, Scotland) put Limestone up 1-0 in the 20th minute with a short shot. Dominic Casciato (Kent, England) and Ali Benson (Hull, England) got the assists.

Tom Morris (Reading, England) blasted a shot past the Royals goalkeeper in the 51st minute for the 2-0 lead. Benson scored six minutes later. Michael McEmerson (Glasgow, Scotland) crossed the ball from the right side of the box and Benson headed it for his sixth goal this season.

“Tom Morris and Dominic Casciato both had outstanding games,” pointed out Alsop. “Tom was filling in for Sean Boyle and he did an excellent job for us. Dom lead our defense to another clean sheet.”

Limestone outshot Queens 14-7, but the Royals edged the Saints on corner kicks, 5-3. Dan Williams (Kingwood, Texas) had four saves for Queens, while Mark Davidson (London, England) posted four for the Saints.

Limestone travels to Hartsville, S.C., to face league-rival Coker College on Wednesday at 7 p.m. Queens travels to Brevard, N.C., to play Brevard College on October 1 at 4 p.m.
