LIMESTONE MEN’S LACROSSE FACES NEW YORK TECH IN NCAA SEMIFINALS ON SATURDAY

The Limestone College men’s lacrosse team, ranked No. 5 in the latest USILA national poll, will travel to Old Westbury, N.Y., to play the New York Institute of Technology in the semifinals of the NCAA Division II National Tournament. Game time is set for 1 p.m. on Saturday.

The Saints (12-1 overall) are 1-4 all-time against No. 2 New York Tech (11-1 overall). In the team’s last meeting, the Bears defeated Limestone 14-13 in overtime to win the 2005 national championship. The Saints only victory against NYIT was an 11-9 victory in the 2002 NCAA Division II championship match.

Live stats for the Limestone/New York Tech contest will be available at http://iris.nyit.edu/athletics/livestatlax/xlive.htm.

Le Moyne and Bryant will face off in the other NCAA semifinal on Saturday at 1 p.m. at Le Moyne’s campus in Syracuse.

Bryant, currently tied with New York Tech at No. 2 in the latest USILA rankings, is making its first appearance in the tournament. The Bulldogs (14-3 overall) are coming off a big victory against Le Moyne, 5-4. With that win, Bryant claimed the Northeast-10 conference tournament championship on May 4. Limestone holds the advantage in its series record against the Bulldogs, 2-0. The Saints beat Bryant 13-8 last season.

Limestone faced No. 1 Le Moyne in the last semifinals in 2006 and 2007. Lemoyne is 5-1 all-time against the Saints, and eliminated Limestone from the NCAA tournament in the last two seasons. The Dolphins are making their seventh consecutive appearance in the tournament. Their May 4 loss to Bryant snapped a 25-game winning streak.

Winners of the semifinals advance to the finals, which will be held on Sunday, May 25 at 4:30 p.m. at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass., and televised live by CBS College Sports Network. That game will be preceded by the NCAA Division III championship at 1:30 p.m. The Division I semifinals and championship are May 24 and 26, respectively, at the same site.

Tickets to the May 17 NYIT/Limestone semifinal will be available before the game at 11 a.m. at President’s Stadium. Prices are $5 for adults, $3 for students with ID and seniors, $2 for children 12 and under, and free for children 2 and under.
NYIT’s Old Westbury campus is located on Northern Boulevard, east of Glen Cove Road and west of Route 107.
