STORRIER NAMED CONFERENCE CAROLINAS PLAYER OF THE YEAR AS NINE MORE SAINTS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE HONORS

THOMASVILLE, N.C.—Limestone College’s Brendan Storrier (LaFayette, N.Y.) was named Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse Player of the Year, as released by the league office on Monday. Conference Carolinas' All-Conference Men's Lacrosse Team was determined by vote from each head coach of participating institutions.   

Storrier also garnered First-Team All-Conference honors. Joining Storrier on the First Team are AJ Vaughn (Skaneateles, N.Y.), Justin Haworth (Deer Park, N.Y.) , Teddy Prager (Seaford, N.Y.), Matt Pinder (Centreville, Md.), and Mike Piccin.

CJ Ciaravino (Linden, Mich.), Spencer Wims (Waltham, Mass.), and James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) each earned Second-Team honors, while Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) was named Honorable Mention All-Conference.

St. Andrews’ Nick Lewnes was named Freshman of the Year while Jim Dietsch of Belmont Abbey was named Coach of the Year.

All-Conference nominations are collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine First Team, Second Team, Honorable Mention Team, Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, and Coach of the Year award winners.

Awards will be presented at the Conference Tournament Championships hosted by Limestone College in Gaffney, S.C., at this weekend's conference championship.  Quarterfinal games will be played Tuesday at higher seeded teams before semifinal games on Friday and championship finals Sunday at Limestone. Limestone will play the winner of the #4 St. Andrews/#5 Lees-McRae game at 11 a.m. on Friday.

 

 

Storrier, one of NCAA Division II’s leading scorers, leads the Saints’ attack with 34 goals, 21 assists, and 55 points. He’s started in all 10 games for Limestone this season and has four game-winning goals and 20 ground balls. Storrier was named conference Player of the Week earlier this season.

 

Vaughn has also started in every game in 2008 and has scored 29 goals and tallied 12 assists for 41 points. He was a preseason All-American and has earned Conference Carolinas and Inside Lacrosse Player of the Week honors.

 
 

Haworth has tallied 25 goals and 12 assists for 38 points for the Saints so far this year. He ranks top 10 in the nation in goals per game. He earned conference Player of the Week honors this spring and was a preseason All-American.

 

Prager has 34 ground balls on the season to go along with two goals and six assists. He also posts five caused turnovers.

 

Pinder, a preseason All-American selection, has started in 10 games with 2 goals and 3 assists. He has 20 ground balls and six caused turnovers. He led Limestone’s defense to one of the top scoring defenses in the country.

 

Piccin has also played a major role in making Limestone one of NCAA Division II’s top scoring defenses. He’s started in all 10 games, has 24 ground balls, and two caused turnovers.

 

Ciaravino posts a .628 face-off percentage (98-156) and has a team-high 46 ground balls. He’s also recorded one goal and one assist this year.

 

Wims has played in all 10 games. He has a team-high 13 caused turnovers to go along with 27 ground balls, 2 goals, and 1 assist.  He earned conference Defensive Player of the Week honors earlier this season.

 

Tuohy has started in every game for the Saints this year. He has a 5.64 goals against average, a .646 save percentage, and has 95 saves. He was a two-time Player of the Week honoree in 2008. He ranks top five in the nation in GAA and save percentage.

 

Spilker has 10 appearances for Limestone in 2008. He has scored 11 goals and dished out five assists for 16 points. He has 12 ground balls.
