Limestone only outscored Mars Hill 5-3 in the opening quarter, but the Saints had six goals to the Lions’ one in the second quarter. Each team scored four goals in the third period, but the Saints had the 6-4 edge in the final quarter for the victory. The Saints had 44 shots to the visitors’ 33. Limestone also had the 40-23 advantage on ground balls, and won 23 of the game’s 36 face-off attempts. LC was 20-25 on clear attempts while the Lions were 18-21. Brendan Storrier (LaFayette, N.Y.) led the Saints with four goals, while Justin Haworth (Deer Park, N.Y.), A.J. Vaughn (Skaneateles, N.Y.), Michael Poerstel (Annapolis, Md.), and Brock Spilker (Pasadena, Md.) scored three goals apiece. Haworth, Matt Pinder (Centreville, Md.), Jake Rogalia (Liverpool, N.Y.), and Vaughn each tallied two assists. Limestone’s C.J. Ciaravino (Linden, Mich.) was 15-23 in faceoffs with 7 ground balls while Jeff Hunter (Shoreham, N.Y.) was 8-11 in faceoffs. Sam Buppert (Marriottsville, Md.) also scooped up seven ground balls, while Mike Piccin (Agawam, Mass.) and Spencer Wims (Waltham, Mich.) each recorded four ground balls. Wims also had two caused turnovers. Goalkeeper James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) posted 11 saves. Kris Frier (Tully, N.Y.) led Mars Hill with four ground balls and three caused turnovers. Goalie Nick Sigona (Auburn, N.Y.) recorded 10 saves. Mars Hill was led by Tyler Farmer’s (Calgary, Alberta, Canada) four goals and two assists. David Hodgins (Windor, Ontario, Canada) scored three goals. Limestone hosts Pfeiffer University on Saturday in Conference Carolinas action at 1 p.m. Saturday is also Senior Day for the Saints. Mars Hill wraps up the regular season on April 13 when the Lions travel to Charleston, W. Va., to face Seton Hill College at 2 p.m. |
