3 SAINTS EARN ALL-CONFERENCE BASEBALL HONORS

WILSON, N.C.—Three Limestone College baseball players earned All-Conference honors as announced at the conference awards banquet. Designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) earned First Team honors, while center fielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) and right-handed pitcher Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) were named Second-Team All-Conference.

McSwain ranks top 10 in the conference in hits (71), batting average (.390), doubles (13), home runs (11), total bases (57), RBIs (54), and slugging percentage (.654). He hit 4-5 with two RBIs, a double, and one run scored against Barton on February 17, and batted 3-5 with three RBIs against St. Andrews in March. He also had three RBIs against nationally-ranked Mount Olive on March 21 as he hit 2-4 with two doubles. McSwain batted .410 against conference opponents this spring.

Watkins leads Conference Carolinas with 25 stolen bases this year. He ranked second in the league in triples, seventh in hits, and top 10 in total bases. He led Limestone to a 17-7 win against Tusculum as he batted 2-4 with two runs, four RBIs, and one triple. He also hit 3-4 against nationally-ranked Mount Olive to record two doubles and two runs. He also posted three RBIs, a homerun, one run scored versus Belmont Abbey.

Zimmerman ranks top 10 in the league in wins with seven. He recorded complete games against St. Andrews and Barton this season. He pitched a complete nine-inning game in the Saints’ conference win against Anderson on April 14 as he scattered seven hits, posted three strikeouts, and only allowed two earned runs. He also helped Limestone to an 8-3 win over then-ranked No. 27 Francis Marion as he played in the final 1/3 inning in relief.

The All-Conference baseball team was determined by a vote from each head coach of participating member institutions. Nominations are collected and then voted upon by ballot and tallied to determine Player of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Coach of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, All-Conference First Team, and All-Conference Second Team.

Jason Sherer of Mount Olive was named Player of the Year, while the Trojan’s Ryan Schlecht earned Pitcher of the Year honors. Erskine’s Atlee Pearson was named Freshman of the Year, and Mount Olive Head Coach Carl Lancaster garnered Coach of the Year honors.
