WATKINS' GRAND SLAM LIFTS SAINTS TO 15-13 VICTORY AGAINST WINGATE |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the ninth inning to lift the Limestone College baseball team to a 15-13 win over Wingate University on Tuesday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. The Bulldogs fall to 20-35 for the year. Limestone ends the 2008 season with a 24-31 overall record. Saint closer Evan Denton (Gastonia, N.C.) got the win after he recorded two strikeouts and allowed only two hits in the final two innings. Starter Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) posted four strikeouts in the first four innings. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) and Marques Kyles (Spartanburg, S.C.) also pitched for the Saints. Matt Roldan (Monroe, N.C.) picked up the loss for Wingate after he gave up the winning run in the final 1/3 inning of the game. Watkins, who also had a lead-off home run in the first inning, batted 2-6 with five RBIs. Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) and Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) each hit doubles, while Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) hit two doubles. Kyle Brewer (Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.) also hit a home run. Josh Izokovic (Shelby, N.C.) had two stolen bases as Soden recorded one. The Bulldogs’ Cale Rogers (Snow Camp, N.C.) hit 4-5 with three RBIs and two runs scored. Nick Siega-Riz (Clemmons, N.C.) batted 4-6 with two runs and two RBIs. Today's contest was Limestone's last game of 2008. The Bulldogs host Belmont Abbey on April 23 at 6 p.m. in Wingate, N.C. |
