LIMESTONE ELIMINATED FROM CONFERENCE BASEBALL TOURNAMENT |
WILSON, N.C.--#7 seed Pfeiffer University (24-28) eliminated #6 seed Limestone College (23-31), 11-4, in a losers’ bracket game of the 2008 Conference Carolinas Baseball Tournament on Friday afternoon at Barton College's Nixon Field. Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, S.C.) took the loss after Pfeiffer scored four earned runs in the first two innings. Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) pitched the next 4 1/3 innings, allowed six hits and four earned runs. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) pitched 2/3 of an inning and allowed three hits and two earned runs. Brock White (Gaffney, S.C.) entered the contest for the final two innings. He scatted three hits and allowed zero runs. Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) and Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) each hit doubles for Limestone. Greg Dailey (Baltimore, Md.) had a stolen base. The Saints scored all four of their runs in the seventh. Anthony scored from second base as Daily reached first on an error by Pfeiffer’s second baseman. Soden doubled down the right field line to score Ron Torrance (Sarasota, Fla.). Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) followed up with an RBI single to bring Dailey home, and Josh Izokovic (Shelby, N.C.) grounded out as Soden scored. The Falcons play the loser of the No. 1 seed Mount Olive College/No. 4 seed Anderson University on Friday night at 7 p.m. in a another elimination game at historic Fleming Stadium. Limestone hosts Wingate University on Tuesday, April 22 at Bob Prevatte Field. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m. |
