SAINTS BASEBALL LOSES TO BELMONT ABBEY IN FIRST ROUND OF CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT

WILSON, N.C.—The Limestone College baseball team lost to Belmont Abbey, 8-1, on Thursday afternoon at Fleming Stadium in the first round of the Conference Carolinas tournament. The Saints fall to 23-30 overall with the loss as the Crusaders stand at 33-17.

Starter Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.) took the loss for Limestone after he gave up five earned runs in the first 2 1/3 innings. Thomas Fekete (Aiken, S.C.) allowed three earned runs in 1/3 innings of work. Marques Kyles (Spartanburg, S.C.) pitched 4 1/3 innings in relief and only allowed two hits. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) closed out the final inning and gave up no hits.

Andy Helms picked up the win for the Abbey as he recorded five strikeouts in the first eight innings.

Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) hit a homerun for the Saints’ only run of the game.

Limestone will play either St. Andrews or Pfeiffer tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Nixon Field in the double elimination tournament. The 2008 Conference Carolinas tournament is hosted by Barton College.
