LIMESTONE PICKS UP 7-5 WIN AGAINST ANDERSON

ANDERSON, S.C. -- Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) threw a complete game, allowing two earned runs, to lead Limestone to a 7-5 victory over Anderson University Sunday in the final Conference Carolinas game of the season for both teams.

Zimmerman scattered seven hits, allowed five runs, and recorded three strikeouts, including the potential go-ahead run for the final out.

Anderson scored the first run of the game in the first when Derek Hipp reached on an error and scored on an error by the left fielder when Matt Hill singled to give the Trojans a 1-0 lead.

Limestone took the lead in the fourth when Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) hit a two-run homer to right make it 2-1.

The Saints added another run in the fifth when Kyle Brewer (Greutli-Laager, Tenn.) reached on a fielder's choice, moved to third on a single by A.J. Bsharah (East Kentwood, Mich.), and scored on a sacrifice fly by Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) to make it 3-1 in favor of the Saints.

Anderson responded in the bottom half when Ryan Saxon singled to lead off the inning. Saxon moved to third when Don Ballard doubled down the left field line, and scored on a sacrifice fly by Patrick West to cut the Limestone lead to 3-2.

Limestone added four insurance runs in the ninth inning. McSwain led off with a single. Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) followed with a double to left field and Matt Still (Moncks Corner, S.C.) hit a pinch-hit two-run single to left. David Christy (Greenville, S.C.) followed with a two-run home run to left field to extend the lead to 7-2.

Anderson mounted a comeback in the ninth when Clint Neville smacked a two-run home run to right. With two outs, Saxon doubled to right center, and Don Ballard drove Saxon home with a single to right center. After Jared Rikard walked to bring the go-ahead run to the plate, Zimmerman struck the final Trojan batter out to end the game.

Anderson's offense was led by Saxon who was 2-for-4 with one RBI.

McSwain led the Limestone attack with two hits in four at bats and two RBIs. Christy added two hits and two RBIs in his four at bats.

Anderson finishes fifth in the conference with an 11-13 record and is 18-35 overall, while Limestone finishes sixth in the conference with a 9-14 record and is 22-28 overall.

Limestone travels to Wingate, N.C., on April 15 to play Wingate University at 6 p.m. Anderson's final game of the regular season is Tuesday, Apr. 15 at 6 p.m. at Anderson Memorial Stadium against Augusta State.
