LENOIR-RHYNE DEFEATS LIMESTONE 7-4

HICKORY, N.C.—Limestone College dropped to 20-22 overall this season with a 7-4 loss to Lenoir-Rhyne College in baseball action on Tuesday evening at Bears Field. The Bears improve to 20-21 overall with the win.

Junior third baseman Daniel Ford (Youngstown, Ohio/Manatee CC) hit his team-leading ninth home run of the season and finished with six runs batted in as the Bears defeated the Saints for the third time this year.

L-R opened the scoring with three runs in the third frame highlighted by Ford’s two-run single and the Bears made it 5-0 in the fifth inning when Ford plated two more on a double.

Ford, who went three-for-four in the game, then rounded out the Bears’ scoring with a two-run home run in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 7-1 advantage.

Limestone tried to rally with three runs in the top of the eighth inning that included a two-run single from Ryan McKenzie (Dunedin, Fla.) but L-R senior John Patterson (Hickory, N.C./East Carolina Univ.) registered the final four outs to secure the victory for the Bears.

Lenoir-Rhyne freshman Will Moseley (Shreveport, La./Captain Shreve HS) (1-1) picked up his first win of the year while Patterson notched his first save of 2008.

Starter Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.) took the loss for Limestone after he gave up six hits and five runs in five innings of work. He also posted three strikeouts. Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.) pitched two innings with three strikeouts and allowed three hits and two earned runs.
