LIMESTONE SPLITS WITH TUSCULUM

GAFFNEY, S.C.—Limestone College split its baseball doubleheader against Tusculum on Saturday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. The Pioneers took game one 8-0, but the Saints handed Tusculum a 17-7 loss in game two. Limestone stands at 20-20 overall as Tusculum’s record is 24-11.

Boo Morrow (Lexington, Ky.) pitched a complete game shutout for the Pioneers’ win. He recorded eight strikeouts and only allowed four hits and one walk. Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) took the loss for Limestone as he pitched 8 1/3 innings with two strikeouts. He allowed nine hits and five earned runs. Marques Kyles (Spartanburg, S.C.) pitched 2/3 of an inning in relief.

Christian Rosa (Toa Baja, Puerto Rico) led his team with three RBIs. He hit 2-4 with two runs scored. Carlos Rivera (Leesburg, Va.) was 3-5 at bat with three runs scored and one RBI. Eric Conley (Knoxville, Tenn.) hit 2-3 with one RBI.

Thomas Fekete (Aiken, S.C.) improved to 3-1 on the season with Limestone’s 17-7 victory in game two. He threw all seven innings, only allowed seven hits, and recorded six strikeouts.  Rob Currie (St Charles, Ill.) got the loss.

The Saints’ Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) had a game-high four RBIs as he hit 2-4. Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) batted 2-3 with one RBI and three runs scored. He also recorded his sixth homerun of the season. Ryan McKenzie (Dunedin, Fla.) batted 1-3 with two RBIs.

Tusculum’s Maikol Gonzalez (Maracaibo, Venezuela) hit 2-2 with two RBIs and scored one run. Rosa scored three runs for the Pioneers.

The Saints and Pioneers play again at 1 p.m. tomorrow at Bob Prevatte Field in the final game of the series.
