SAINTS BASEBALL LOSES TO MARS HILL

MARS HILL, N.C.-- The Limestone College baseball team lost to Mars Hill College 12-3 on Monday afternoon. The Saints' record stands at 18-18 as the Lions improve to 20-15.

The Lions scored first putting up two runs in the second inning highlighted by a solo homerun from Brian Williams (Orlando, Fla.) to start the frame.

Limestone scored all three of their runs in the top of the third inning on two hits and one Lion error. Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) singled through the right side to drive home Matt Still (Moncks Corner, S.C.). Watkins stole second base and later scored on a hit from Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.). Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) scored Limestone’s final run on a wild pitch.

MHC would score single runs in the fourth and sixth inning before putting the contest away in the seventh inning scoring three runs. Daniel Coffey (Granite Falls, N.C.) drove in two of the three runs on a double to left-center. The Lions then added five insurance runs in their final at-bat on five hits highlighted by a two-RBI single by Williams.

Limestone’s Evan Denton (Gastonia, N.C.) fell to 0-1 on the season with the loss. He saw action in the first 6 1/3 innings, recorded four strikeouts, and allowed seven hits. Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.) pitched one inning, and Josh Joseph (Axton, Va.) closed in the final 2/3 inning.

Mars Hill starter Carl Taylor improved to 3-2 on the season with the victory. He gave up three hits in seven innings and recorded five strikeouts.
