LIMESTONE BEATS MILLERSVILLE 7-6 |
GAFFNEY, S.C.— The Limestone College baseball team brought its record up to 15-12 with a 7-6 victory against Millersville University on Thursday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. The Marauders fall to 5-10 with the loss. Limestone had a 4-3 lead going into the seventh inning, but Millersville’s Cody Wile (Lancaster, Pa.) led off with a homerun. A single by Andrew Dochterman (Lancaster, Pa.) scored Bryan Stovall (Harrisburg, Pa.) The Marauders took the 6-4 lead after the Saints defense had the Millersville first base runner in a rundown after a pick-off move by Limestone’s pitcher. The third base runner, Corey Phelan (Newark, Del) ran for home and the Saint first baseman just missed throwing him out at the plate. The Saints fought back in the bottom of the inning, as Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) got his team started with a homerun. Limestone scored the tying run off a base hit by Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) Ryan McKenzie (Dunedin, Fla.) grounded out to first base, but that was enough for Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) to come home to score the game-winning run. Limestone’s Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) recorded his second win of the season as he pitched the final 2/3 of the seventh inning. He allowed only one hit. Brock White (Gaffney, S.C.) got his fifth save of the year as he only gave up one hit in the ninth. Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.) pitched the first six innings, allowed eight hits, and recorded three strikeouts. Evan Denton (Gastonia, N.C.) and Brett Wease (Shelby, N.C.) also pitched. Watkins, Soden, and McSwain each hit 2-4 with one RBI apiece. Soden and Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) recorded homeruns. Ryan Stauffer (Lebanon, Pa.) took the loss for Millersville. He played the final 1 2/3 inning and gave up two hits and one earned run. Ross Nicolini (Downingtown, Pa.) pitched the first 6 1/3 innings and allowed eight hits and six earned runs. Derek Kline (Cleona, Pa.) and Dochterman were each 3-5 at bat with one RBI. Phelan was 2-5 with one run scored. Dochterman and Lance Miller (Newville, Pa.) hit doubles. Kline had a triple and a stolen base. Limestone hosts Conference Carolinas-rival Coker this weekend. Saturday’s doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m. and Sunday’s game will start at 1 p.m. Millersville heads to Murfreesboro, N.C., for a three-game series against Chowan this weekend.
