NO. 17 LIMESTONE DEFEATS ST. ANDREWS 40-5 |
LAURINBURG, N.C.— The No. 17-ranked Limestone College wrestling team picked up a 40-5 win against St. Andrews Presbyterian College on Tuesday night. The Saints won 9 out of 10 matches for the victory. Limestone improved to 2-0 on the season as the Knights open the dual match portion of their schedule 0-1. Junior Ian Barker put the Saints on top for the whole match with a first-period pin fall at lightweight ranks for six points. Barker pinned Knights freshman Eric Brown (Norfolk, Va.) just 2:45 into the contest. Limestone increased its lead to 15-0 with three decisions by a trio of Saints juniors in the next three battles. Brent Clausing (Miamisburg, Ohio) edged freshman Casey Gashaw (Laurinburg, N.C.) 5-2 at 133-pounds. Joe Federspiel (Greenville, S.C.) squeaked past freshman Alejandro Soto-Perez (Laurinburg, N.C.) at 141-lbs with riding time, 7-67,8and Dustin Baynes (Liberty Twp., Ohio) added a 5-3 decision against freshman Greg Todd (Gloucester, Va.) in the 149-pound ranks. Sophomore Mikel Bush (Lakewood, N.Y.) picked up a forfeit victory at 157, giving the visitors a 21-0 lead at the midway intermission. Limestone continued its shutout bid at 165, as freshman Casey Bradley (Muncie, Ind.) took the mat for a 13-1 major decision over freshman Rickey Flood (Martinsville, Va.). Fulmer eventually put the Knights on the scoreboard in the seventh match of the evening. Fulmer rolled to a 17-2 technical fall of freshman Logan Raabe (Sumter, S.C.) in the 174-pound division. Fulmer had four near falls and two takedowns en route to his second win of the season. Limestone got those five points back in the next battle at 184 as sophomore Dan Scanlan (Leesburg, Va.) tallied a 16-1 technical fall over freshman Will Hess (Lexington, N.C.). Senior Dave Bush (Lakewood, N.Y.) followed at 197 with a 13-2 major decision over senior Charles Richardson (Virginia Beach, Va.). The Saints finished the dual match the same way they started it with another pin fall. Junior Trey Moss (Red Bank, S.C.) pinned freshman Andre Ellerbe (Laurinburg, N.C.) at the 1:59 mark to give the visitors the 35-point victory.
