LIMESTONE WRESTLING RESULTS FROM DAY 1 OF NCAA EAST REGIONAL

JOHNSTOWN, Pa.—The Limestone College wrestlers had several strong performances in the opening rounds of the 2008 NCAA East Regional hosted by the University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown on Friday. The Saints are battling for an opportunity to compete at the NCAA Division II National Champions hosted by Upper Iowa University in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, on March 14-15.

Mikel Bush (Lakewood, N.Y.) advanced to the semifinals of the 157-pound weight class with an 11-5 decision against West Liberty Stat’s Brian Leggett. Joby Schreckhise (Grottoes, Va.) had a 9-5 decision at 174 lbs. over Kutztown’s Curtis Beardsell, and then defeated Newberry’s Bryant Blanton 2-1 to advance to the semifinals of his weight class. Dan Scanlan (Leesburg, Va.) is in contention for the 184-pound championship after beating St. Andrews’ Eric Fulmer, 7-2. Trey Moss (Red Bank, S.C.) had two wins the heavyweight class to reach tomorrow’s semifinals. Moss defeated UNC-Pembroke’s Erik Stancil, 7-2, and went on to defeat Kenny Bluska (Mercyhurst), 5-3.

David Bush (Lakewood, N.Y.) will fight for third place in tomorrow’s consolation round after he lost to Newberry’s Kelly Anundson with a fall at 3:24. Bush went on to pin Anderson’s Logan Watson (2:18) to stay in the competition in the 197-pound division. Brent Clausing (Miamisburg, Ohio) will also compete for third place at 133-pounds after losing to Brandon Reasy (University of Pittsburgh-Johnstown) 5-0 in the opening match. Clausing went on to defeat Mercyhurst’s Lance Pitcel 5-0 in the consolation round.

The top four wrestlers from each of the 10 weight classes qualify for the national tournament.

On Saturday, session III will begin at 10 a.m. with the semifinals and the consolation quarterfinals, followed by the consolation semifinals at approximately 12:30 p.m.  The final session will start at 2:30 p.m., featuring the finals, consolation finals, 5th-6th place matches and true-fourth matches.
