LADY SAINTS TOP CONVERSE 66-49

GAFFNEY, S.C.— The Limestone College Lady Saints basketball team evened its record to 6-6 for the season with a 66-49 victory against Converse College on Saturday afternoon at the Timken Center. Converse falls to 2-13 after today’s loss.

The game got off to a slow start, but Limestone’s Addie Graves (Columbia, S.C.) scored the first points of the game about 3 minutes in with two free-throws. The Lady Saints held Converse scoreless for over 7 minutes until Converse’s Sydney Brown (Myrtle Beach, S.C.) hit a three-pointer. Limestone entered halftime with a 19-14 lead over the Valkyries.

The Lady Saints led for the entire second half, though the Valkyries managed to cut Limestone’s lead to 8 (55-47) with 3 minutes left to play. Limestone outscored Converse 47-35 for the 66-49 win.

Essence Greer (Washington, D.C.) led the Lady Saints with 13 points, and also posted 6 rebounds. Ariel Lyons (Brandon, Fla.) scored 11 points and dished out 5 assists, as Tiffany Jones (Greer, S.C.) chipped in 10 points. Graves had a game-high 11 rebounds.

Brown had a team-high 12 points for Converse as Brandy Williams (Spartanburg, S.C.) had 11. Brown also had a game-high six assists.

Limestone travels to Hartsville, S.C., on January 5 to face Conference Carolinas-rival Coker College at 2 p.m. Converse heads to Newberry College in Newberry, S.C. on December 31 to face the Indians.
