LIMESTONE MEN IN 2ND AT SCAD INVITATIONAL; LADY SAINTS 3RD

SAVANNAH, Ga.— The Limestone College men’s swim team is in second place after 20 events at the Savannah College of Art & Design Invitational while the Lady Saints are in third. The SCAD Invitational is being held at the Chatham Aquatic Center.

Three Saints achieved NCAA ‘A’ cut times in Saturday evening’s final. The 400 medley relay team of Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden), Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa), Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa), and Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa) had a time of 3:24.87 to win the event. McKenzie swam the 400 individual medley in 4:03.29, and Melin posted a time of 52.68 in the 400 backstroke. Melin also won the event.

Several Saints also recorded NCAA ‘B’ cut times. Parsonage swam the 100 butterfly in 50.43. Jessi Sullivan (Lancaster, S.C.) had a time of 59.36 in the women’s 100 fly. She also took second in that event McKenzie swam the 200 breaststroke in 2:07.17 and also came in first place. Marija Grubic (Split, Croatia) swam the 100 back in 59.73 and also won that race.

In the women’s 400 medley finals, Wickham, Carmen Adams (Conway, S.C.), Sullivan, and Jenna Arington (Pittsford, N.Y.) played second (4:08.94).

Molly Reichwald (Atlanta, Ga.) was ninth in the 200 freestyle (1:59.71) and ninth in the 400 IM (4:48.57). Renee Pouchet (Maraval, Trinidad & Tabago) and Wickham took third and eighth, respectively, in the 100 backstroke. Grubic was fifth in the 400 free with a time of 25.88. Adams finished fifth in the 200 breaststroke.

Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia) finished eighth in the men’s 200 free (2:04.41). Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia) took second in the 100 back (53.60). In the 400 IM, McKenzie, Karaman, and Parsonage placed second, third, and fourth, respectively. Jordens was second in the 50 free, as Majlat was third and Melin was sixth.  Parsonage took first in the 100 fly (50.43).

Competition at the SCAD invitational began on Friday evening. After Saturday morning’s results, the Lady Saints were third and the Saints were second.

Limestone had several solid performances on Friday.  Jenna Arington (Pittsford, N.Y.), Marija Gruibc (Split, Croatia), Molly Reichwald (Atlanta, Ga.), and Renee Pouchet (Maraval, Trinidad & Tobago) swam the 800 free relay in 8:13.46 to take fourth. In the men’s 800, Zeljko Karaman (Split, Croatia), Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa), Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden), and Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa) took second. Their time of 7:02.77 set a new Limestone record. Reichwald, Arington, Pouchet, and Grubic were second in the 200 free relay, as Sullivan, Ines Speranda (Split, Croatia), Shelly Hutcheson (Greenville, S.C.), and Adams were ninth.

Reichwald finished seventh in the 1650 free (18:49.71). Karaman broke another school record as he took fourth in the men’s 1650 free with a time of 16:57.50.  Ryan Mead (Lexington, S.C.) was sixth (17:09.76) in the same event.

On Saturday morning, Reichwald locked in a swim for the finals later that night with a time of 2:04.17 in the 200 free. Arington was seated 15th in the finals with a time of 2:04.87 in the same race. Grubic secured the first position in the finals heat in the 100 backstroke with her time of 58.63, just shy of an NCAA ‘A’ cut time, in the preliminaries. Wickham secured the second position in the same heat with a time of 59.78. Pouchet swam the 100 back in 1:01.50 for the third position in the final, as Shelley Hutcheson (Greenville, S.C.) was seated 12th with her time of 1:05.42. Reichwald was seated 10th in the 400 Individual Medley finals with her time of 4:59.61, and Ines Speranda (Split, Croatia) was 15th in the final after her first round time of 5:07.25.

Grubic was in second place as of Saturday morning for the 50 free with a time of 25.84 in the 50 free. Carmen Adams (Conway, S.C.) earned an 8th place position in the finals with a time of 2:38.42 in the 200 breaststroke.

Jessi Sullivan (Lancaster, S.C.) was in 6th position for the 100 butterfly final with a time of 1:02.42 in the morning. Speranda held the 11th place position with a time of 1:04.20.

In the men’s 200 free, Karaman finished fourth (1:46.75) to move on to the evening competition. Melin, Goran Maljat (Split, Croatia), and Mead all qualified for the finals of the 100 back. Melin just missed an ‘A’ cut time in the preliminaries with a 51.58 to be seated in first. Majlat was seated second (52.98), and Mead was placed 13th (58.67). In the 400 IM, McKenzie was in the second place position going into the evening session with a time of 4:11.96. Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa) is in the 6th place postion with a time of 4:18.95

In the men’s 50 free, Jordens was seated second with a time of 21.25, Goran Maljat was seated third with a time of 21.30, and Melin was seated sixth with a time of 21.81. Chad McKenzie touched out Sergey Vlashchenko from Wingate in the 200 breaststroke to lock in the first position going into Saturday’s final with a time of 2:07.17, not far from an NCAA 'A' cut. Ben Williams (Berea, Ohio) was in the 14th place position for this evening with a time of 2:23.91

Parsonage touched out Gus Chagas from Wingate to take the first place position in the morning’s prelims. Parsonage had a time of 51.00, just shy of a NCAA 'A' Cut
Jordens entered the finals in the fifth place position with a time of 53.20.

The Saints continue competition tomorrow at the SCAD Invitational at 10 a.m.
