LIMESTONE MEN’S SWIMMING FINISHES 3RD AT BLUEGRASS MOUNTAIN CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP; LADY SAINTS TAKE 4TH

CHARLOTTE, N.C.-- The Limestone swim teams wrapped up competition at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship at the Mecklenburg Aquatic Center on Saturday. The Saint men finished 3rd among 12 teams while the Lady Saints were fourth among 12 teams.

In Friday’s final, Ryan Mead (Lexington, S.C.) was sixth in the 1650 freestyle (16:46.53). Linvern Lim (Port Dixon, Malaysia) won the 200 back (1:53.54). Craig Jordens (Cape Town, South Africa) was third in the 100 free (45.56), Goran Majlat (Split, Croatia) was fifth (46.16), and Chris Harrigan (Greenville, S.C.) was seventh (46.37). Chad McKenzie (Durban, South Africa) finished second in the 200 breaststroke (2:05.37). Matt Parsonage (Durban, South Africa) won the 200 butterfly in 1:54.57.

Parsonage, Harrigan, Anders Melin (Karlstad, Sweden), and Majlat swam the 400 free relay in 3:03.81 for second place.

In the women’s 200 backstroke, Marija Grubic (Split, Croatia) was second (2:08.87), Jenna Arington (Pittsford, N.Y.) was seventh (2:12.98), and Donna Wickham (Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago) was ninth (2:08.45). Wickham, Grubic, Molly Reichwald (Atlanta, Ga.) and Jessica Young (Columbia, Mo.) finished fourth in the 400 free relay with a time of 3:40.96.

Carmen Adams (Conway, S.C.) took sixth with a time of 2:30.12 in the 200 breaststroke.

During the event, Limestone recorded several NCAA “A” cut times as several swimmers qualified for the NCAA Division II National Championships. Many swimmers also earned “B” cut times. In order to compete at the national championships, swimmers must record at least one “A” cut time, but may also compete in events in which they have scored a “B” cut time.

Limestone heads to the NCAA Division II National Championships on March 12-15 in Columbia, Mo.
