Her personality and attitude towards the game makes her a valuable addition to any collegiate program, and she is someone every coach would want to add to their roster. There is no doubt that when she is on the field, she’s going to give us 100% and play with a tremendous amount of heart.” Mallory and Kelsey Kuykendall come to Limestone from Easley, S.C., where they will wrap up their prep careers at Wren High School. These players spent their freshman, sophomore, and junior seasons playing for Houston High School in Germantown, Tenn. The women helped their team to a fifth place finish in the state as sophomores. In 2006, Mallory and Kelsey led their Germantown Lady Red Devils club team to the USFA Tennessee State Championship, and their Bluff City Bombers club squad from Memphis was ASA Mississippi State Co-Champion. Their parents are Dennis and Audrey Kuykendall and both plan to major I biology. Kelsey batted .336 as a freshman at Houston High School, and was named 2006 Offensive Player of the Year. She was her high school team’s leader in runs, triples, and hits as a junior. Kelsey batted .500 last year and had a .801 slug percentage. She is expected to play at shortstop or in the infield for the Lady Saints. Mallory, a catcher and outfielder, led her team in hits as a freshman as she recorded a .397 batting average and a .627 slugging percentage. Last season, Mallory she was named to the Memphis All-Metro Team as she batted .311 and posted 1.00 in fielding percentage. “We’re very pleased to be having the twins join our program next year,” said Martin. “Between the two of them they are capable of playing every position on the field besides pitcher. With that versatility, their impact on this team will be unlimited. Both Mallory and Kelsey also swing the bat very well which will increase their importance in the lineup. They are very solid players now, and we look for them to improve even more as they continue to play with a strong program this upcoming year. Both girls are excellent students and fit the mold of a student-athlete well” Jordan Smith hails from Goose Creek, S.C., where she attends Stratford High School. She is a versatile athlete who can play at second or third base, or in the outfield. She started at shortstop and third base during the 2005 and 2006. Last season she was the starting third baseman for the varsity squad as she helped the team to the 2007 Region 7 AAAA Championship and a runner-up finish in the Lower State championship. Smith helped her club team, the South Carolina Bandits, to the under-18 state championships. She is the daughter of Dewayne and Debbie Smith and will major in sports management and physical education. “Jordan is another player who we expect to see time at more than one position,” Martin stated. “Her arm strength will be a big positive from anywhere on the field. She’s got an excellent glove at third base with incredibly quick reflexes that will prove to be a great asset when making the adjustment to the college level. We have experienced lots of success with student-athletes coming from her high school and travel ball programs and we are looking forward to her continuing that trend. Coming from these programs we are confident that she has the discipline, work ethic, and knowledge of what it takes to be a winner.” |
