LIMESTONE ADVANCES TO CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP WITH 19-3 WIN OVER ST. ANDREWS |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—No. 3 Limestone College advanced to the Conference Carolinas Men’s Lacrosse Championship game with a 19-3 win over the #4 seed, St. Andrews, in the tournament semifinals on Friday afternoon at Saints Field. The Knights stand at 4-13 with the loss as Limestone climbs to 11-0. #1-seeded Limestone advances to face #3 Belmont Abbey on Sunday at 3 p.m. in the Conference Carolinas Championship. The Crusaders defeated Queens 14-10 in the second semifinal match-up on Friday. Limestone held a 60-22 advantage on shots and a 44-25 advantage on ground balls. The Saints won 19 of the game’s 26 faceoffs. Nine different Saints scored in the win with Brendan Storrier (LaFayette, N.Y.) leading the way with 10 points from five goals and five assists. AJ Vaughn (Skaneateles, N.Y.) tallied eight points from five goals and three assists. Ryan Verrilli (Syracuse, N.Y.) had four points from two goals and two assists. Jeff Hunter (Shoreham, N.Y.) won 8-9 faceoffs for Limestone while CJ Ciaravino (Linden, Mich.) was 7-12. James Tuohy (Levittown, N.Y.) had eight saves while Johnny Rodriguez (Gambrills, Md.) posted four in the final 16 minutes. Mike Piccin (Agawam, Mass.) and Ciaravino each picked up four ground balls. Cole Howell (St. Albert, Alberta, Canada) led St. Andrews with two goals, while Fred Parson (Glen Burnie, Md.) also tallied a goal. Knight goalkeepers Nate Hull (Millersville, Md.) and Patrick Wade (West Windsor, N.J.) combined for 16 saves. The 2008 Conference Carolinas men’s lacrosse championship is hosted by Limestone College. |
