LIMESTONE MEN’S BASKETBALL LOSES TO QUEENS 81-66

CHARLOTTE, N.C.—The Limestone College men’s basketball team suffered an 81-66 loss to Queens University of Charlotte in Tuesday night’s Conference Carolinas opener. The Saints stand at 1-1 after today’s result (0-1 Conference Carolinas) as the Royals improve to 2-0 overall (1-0 league).

Limestone freshman Bobby Grier (Powder Springs, Ga.) scored a team-high 17 points, nailing 6-of-7 free throws and shooting 4-of-7 from the field. He also dished out three assists. Senior Marques Williams (Rochester, N.Y.) was the only other Saint to score in double figures as he had 10 points. He also had four boards. Senior John Prioleau had six rebounds and three steals.

Queens’ Darnell Evans had game-high 23 points, as Reggie Hopkins scored 18 points and recorded 5 rebounds. John Thompson chipped in 14 points. Jeff Hefner had a game-high 10 rebounds.

The Royals took an early lead and never looked back as the Saints trailed 44-35 at halftime. Limestone managed to cut Queens’ advantage to two (24-22) with 7:38 left in the first half, but Queens had 37 points to Limestone’s 31 in the final period for the win.

Queens sank 22 of its 47 attempts and Limestone made 17-of-37 baskets. Limestone had the edge free-throw percentage, 87.5% (14-16) to 61.5% (16-26).

The Royals out-rebounded the Saints 42-30, but Limestone held a 10-7 edge on second-chance points.

Limestone travels to Newberry, S.C., on Wednesday, November 28 for a non-conference game against the Newberry College Indians at 7 p.m.
