SAINTS BASKETBALL GETS 78-74 WIN AGAINST ERSKINE

GAFFNEY, S.C. -- The Limestone College men’s basketball defeated Erskine College 78-74 on Wednesday night at the Timken Center. The Saints improve to 3-12 in Conference Carolinas play (6-15 overall) as the Flying Fleet fall to 2-13 in the league (6-16).

Andrae Franklin (Fort Pierce, Fla.) had a double-double with 24 points and 10 boards. Marques Williams (Rochester, N.Y.) scored 19 points, Andre Coleman (Clermont, Fla.) went 5-for-5 in 3-pointers and 2-for-2 in free throws for 17 points, and Kenny White (Columbia, S.C.) was 4-for-6 from the field for 11 points. John Prioleau (Charleston, S.C.) had seven rebounds and four assists as Bobby Grier (Powder Springs, Ga.) led Limestone with 5 assists.

Brandon Wright (Goose Creek, S.C.) pace the Fleet with 19 points, while Nathan Jones (Clemson, S.C.) scored 18. Nick Riley (Stone Mountain, Ga.) had 13 points as Victor Street, Jr. (Rock Hill, S.C.) and T.J. Taylor (Gastonia, N.C.) both scored 10.

The Saints led for the entire first half until Wright hit three-pointer with 8:40 left to tie the game for the first time. There was never more than a four-point difference in the remainder of the period. A three-pointer by Prioleau gave Limestone the 33-31 lead at halftime.

The second half was close, with Limestone only outscoring Erskine 45-43. The Saints led the entire period, but the Fleet closed in with 1:08 left as Street made a layup to make the score 68-66. Williams responded for the Saints with a three-pointer to increase their lead to 71-66, but Jones responded for Erskine with a three-pointer. Franklin gave the Saints some breathing room with a layup and a made free-throw, but Erskine cut the Saints advantage to four with two made free-throws by Taylor. Limestone got three more points from free-throws by Williams and Shawn Creal (Spartanburg, S.C.), but Street kept the Flying Fleet in the game by nailing a three with 16 seconds left to make it 77-74. Williams had a made free throw with five seconds left for the 78-74 win.

Limestone hosts St. Andrews on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in the Timken Center. Erskine plays Mount Olive in Due West, S.C., on February 16 at 4 p.m.
