SAINTS BASKETBALL LOSES TO BELMONT ABBEY 81-78 |
BELMONT, N.C.-- The Saints basketball team lost to Belmont Abbey 81-78 on Saturday afternoon. Limestone falls to 3-12 overall (1-9 Conference Carolinas) as the Crusaders climb to 10-8 overall (8-3 conference). Limestone's Andrae Franklin (Fort Pierce, Fla.) had a double-double with 13 points and 11 rebounds. Marques Williams (Rochester, N.Y.) led the Saints with 23 points, as Bobby Grier (Powder Springs, Ga.) chipped in 14 and Andre Coleman (Clermont, Fla.) added 14. The Abbey shot 42.4 percent (25-59) from the floor as junior guard Jonathan Jackson led four Crusaders in double figures with 22 points. He finished the day six of 17 from the field and converted six of seven free throw attempts in 37 minutes. Freshman guard Richard Barbee added 18 points on seven of 12 shooting, to go along with five rebounds, a blocked shot and two steals in just 21 minutes. Chad Patus narrowly missed a double double with 15 points and nine rebounds. He was perfect from the free throw line, sinking all five of his attempts. Ric Marczenko posted a double double with 14 points and 11 rebounds as the Crusaders won the rebounding marging 37-36. Limestone only trailed by three points at the half (33-36), and both squads scored 45 points in the second period. The Abbey had a 37-36 advantage on rebounds. Limestone was 27-56 in field goals (48.2%) . The Saints held the edge in free-throws, 80% (20-25) to 72.2% (26-36). Limestone hosts Queens on Monday at 7:30 p.m. at the Timken Center in Gaffney, S.C. |
