LIMESTONE MEN’S BASKETBALL GETS FIRST CONFERENCE WIN OVER LEES-MCRAE

GAFFNEY, S.C.— Limestone College picked up its first Conference Carolinas men’s basketball win of the season with a 72-64 decision over Lees-McRae on Thursday night at the Timken Center. The win also snaps the Saints’ eight-game losing streak. Limestone improves to 3-11 overall (1-8 conference) as the Bobcats stand at 2-13 (1-8 league).

Limestone was led in scoring by Marques Williams (Rochester, N.Y.) who had 19 points and 6 assists during the contest. Andrae Franklin (Fort Pierce, Fla.) scored 14 points as Kenny White (Columbia, S.C.) added 12. Bobby Grier (Powder Springs, Ga.) recorded 11 points during the contest. John Prioleau (Charleston, S.C.) had a game-high nine rebounds.

Lees-McRae’s Nick DeSchepper (Fishers, Ind.) scored a game-high 22 points, while Raysean Hairston (Elizabethtown, N.C.) added 11.

The Saints had a 43-27 lead at the end of the first half, but Limestone got off to a slow start in the next period as Lees-McRae went on a 14-5 run in the opening minutes. Twenty-four of Limestone’s 37 points in the second half came in the last 10 minutes of the contest, as Lees-McRae recorded 37 points for the period.

Limestone got 23 points from 16 Lees-McRae turnovers as the Bobcats only managed to score 7 points from 16 Saint turnovers. The hosts had a 32-25 edge on rebounds, and scored 33 points from 3’s compared to the visitors’ 5.

Limestone travels to Belmont, N.C., to face conference-rival Belmont Abbey on Saturday at 4 p.m. Lees-McRae will face Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., on January 26 at 4 p.m.
