ANDERSON 67, LIMESTONE 59

GAFFNEY, S.C.—Anderson University’s Brandon Young (Belmont, N.C.) scored 20 points to lead the Trojans to a 67-59 victory over Limestone College in Conference Carolinas men’s basketball action on Wednesday night at the Timken Center. Anderson improves to 2-3 in the league (4-8 overall) as the Saints fall to 0-4 in the conference (2-7 overall).

Limestone’s Kenny White (Columbia, S.C.) led his team with 15 points, and was the only Saint to reach double scoring figures. Tyron Evans (Leesburg, Fla.) and Bobby Grier (Powder Springs, Ga.) each posted eight boards.

Anderson’s Young also had four steals in addition to his game-high 20 points. Nayte Russell (Birmingham, Ala.) scored 17 as Stephen Cobb (Raleigh, N.C.) added 12. Kris Fudzinskas (Vilnius, Lithuania) had a game-high 10 rebounds. Russell dished out a game-high five assists.

The Trojans edged Limestone 40-38 in scoring in the second period, but Anderson’s 27-21 advantage in the first half gave it the victory. Limestone had 40 rebounds to Anderson’s 39, but the Trojans were better in shooting, going 21 of 54 from the field (38.9%) compared to the Saints’ 15 of 23 shots made (28.3%). Limestone’s free-throw shooting kept the team in the game as the hosts made 24 of their 32 free-throw attempts (75%). Anderson also did well from the charity line, making 14 of 19 attempts.

Limestone travels to play Barton College, the defending NCAA Division II National Champion, on Saturday at 7:30 p.m. in Wilson, N.C. Anderson travels to Laurinburg, N.C., on January 12 to face St. Andrews at 4 p.m.
