LIMESTONE LOSES TO WINTHROP |
ROCK HILL, S.C.- The Limestone College men's basketball team lost to Winthrop (NCAA Division I) 78-34 on Wednesday night at the Winthrop Coliseum. Limestone falls to 2-5 overall as the Eagles climb to 8-5. Limestone trailed 44-20 at halftime, and Winthrop outscored the Saints 34-14 in the second period for the 78-34 win. The Saints struggled with shooting, going 7-of-14 from the field (29.8%). Five of the Saints' made field goals were 3-pointers (5-21/23.8%). Winthrop shot 50% (28-56) and were 10-of-29 (34.5%) from behind the arc. The Eagles made 12 of their 24 free-throw attempts as Limestone was 1 for 7 in free-throws. Wintrhop held a 50-21 advantage on rebounds. Andrae Franklin (Fort Pierce, Fla.) led the Saints with 14 points and 4 rebounds. Bobby Grier (Powder Springs, Ga.) had game-high five assists. Three Winthrop players reached double scoring figures. Antwon Harris scored 14, while Michael Jenkins and Byron Faison each had 13. Andy Buechert had a game-high 10 rebounds. Limestone heads to Coker for a Conference Carolinas contest in Hartsville, S.C., on Saturday. Tip-off is schedule for 4 p.m. |
