SAINTS BASEBALL BEATS FALCONS 6-3

MISENHEIMER, N.C.— Limestone College defeated Pfeiffer University 6-3 in Conference Carolinas baseball action on Sunday afternoon. The Saints climb to 4-2 in league play (10-6 overall) as the Falcons fall to 3-3 in the conference (10-8 overall).

Limestone hit a solo home run in the top of the first to take a quick 1-0 lead.

The Saints used a Falcon error to score three runs ( 2 unearned) in the third to push their lead to 4-0.

With two out in the fifth Bryan Braxton hit a solo home run to put the Falcons on the board.

Will Davis led off the bottom of the sixth with a single, went to third on a Shawn Coke single and scored on a wild pitch to bring the Falcons within two at 4-2.

Limestone added two in the eighth.

Braxton hit another solo home run in the ninth to make the final score 6-3 in favor of Limestone.

Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) got the win after pitching the first 6 1/3 innings. He only gave up eight hits and recorded two strikeouts. Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.) closed for the Saints. He allowed two hits and struck out two batters.

Limestone's Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) was 2-for-3 at bat with two RBIs, a homerun, and a stolen base. Third baseman Matt Still (Moncks Corner, S.C.) was 1-for-4 with 2 RBIs and a home run. Designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) also recorded an RBI. Shortstop Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) recorded a stolen base.

Nick Fogleman (1-1)  took the loss for the Falcons. Fogleman gave up six runs (four earned) in eight innings of work.  He struck out eight while only walking two.

The Saints return to Gaffney, S.C., on Wednesday, February 27 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m.
