LIMESTONE BASEBALL SPLITS WITH PFEIFFER

MISENHEIMER, N.C.— The Limestone College baseball team split its doubleheader against Conference Carolinas-foe Pfeiffer University on Saturday afternoon. The Saints (3-2 conference/9-6 overall) won the first contest 5-3, while the Falcons (3-2 conference/10-7 overall) won the second game 9-3.

Limestone’s Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, S.C.) picked up the win in game one. He pitched the first six innings, recorded eight strikeouts, and only allowed seven hits. Brock White (Gaffney, S.C.) pitched the final 2 1/3 innings for the save. He posted two strikeouts while allowing three hits. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) also pitched for the Saints. Jonathan McDaniel (Mocksville, N.C.) took the loss for the Falcons.

Saint second baseman Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) and designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) were both  2-for-4 at bat. McSwain, center fielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.), catcher Kyle Brewer (Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.), and left fielder A.J. Bsharah (East Kentwood, Mich.) all recorded RBIs.

In game two, Pfeiffer’s Ben Beard (Huntersville, N.C.) was credited with the win after pitching all seven innings. Josh Joseph (Axton, Va.) got the loss. Joseph saw action in the first 3 1/3 innings and gave up six earned runs. Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.), and Brian Baugher (Frederick, Md.) also pitched.  

Limestone first baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) was 2-for-3 with two runs scored and a double and a triple. Third baseman Matt Still (Moncks Corner, S.C.) had a home run. Catcher Ryan McKenzie (Dunedin, Fla.) and Justin Moore (Shelby, N.C.) each had an RBI.

Limestone will face Pfeiffer on Sunday at 1 p.m. for the final game of the series. The Saints return to Gaffney, S.C., on Wednesday, February 27 when they host Lenoir-Rhyne at 2 p.m.
