LIMESTONE BASEBALL BEATS LANDER, 11-5 |
Kyles relieved Saint starter Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.) in the fourth inning and finished out the contest. Jay Guidry took the loss for Lander. Lander took a 1-0 lead in the first when Gabe McCann walked, stole second and scored on T.J. Guinan’s double down the left-field line. The Saints tied it in the top of the second when Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) homered over the 400-foot sign in center field. The Bearcats grabbed a 3-1 lead in the bottom of the second when Brian Bender hit a two-run triple. Limestone tied the game again in the top of the third on Matt Still’s (Moncks Corner, S.C.) two-out, two-run single. Lander scored twice in the bottom of the fourth for the 5-3 lead. Arnette reached second when the left fielder dropped a fly ball, stopped at third on Nunziato’s base hit, and then scored when Alex Baur reached first base on a fielder’s choice. Bender moved the runners to second and third with a bunt, and Robert Skinner lifted a sacrifice fly to deep right field. The Saints tied the game 5-5 in the top of the fifth. Limestone grabbed the lead in the sixth after Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) walked and A.J.Bsharah (East Kentwood, Mich.) was hit by a pitch. The two converted a double steal and both scored on a single by Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) for the 7-5 lead. Watkins stole second and scored on Josh Izokovic’s (Shelby, N.C.) single to make the 8-5. Izokovic, Still, and Brewer added RBI singles in the top of the eighth to give the Saints an 11-5 lead. Brewer, Still, Bsharah, Soden and Izokovic had two hits each for Limestone. Still had three RBIs and Bsharah scored four runs. Brewer, Watkins, and Izokovic had two RBIs each, while Anthony stole two bases. Leading Lander were Nunziato, 2-for-4 with two runs scored, and Arnette, 2-for-3 with two runs, and Bender, who had a triple and two RBIs. Limestone will play Mars Hill College on Thursday, February 21 at 2 p.m. in Mars Hill, N.C. |

GREENWOOD, S.C.— Limestone’s Marques Kyles (Spartanburg, S.C.) pitched over five innings of scoreless relief as the Saints came from behind to beat the Lander Bearcats 11-5 in a non-conference baseball game on Wednesday afternoon at Legion Field. Limestone improved to 8-5 with the victory while Lander fell to 3-5.
