SAINTS BASEBALL LOSES TO NO. 29 ERSKINE, 6-4

DUE WEST, S.C.—The No. 29-ranked Erskine College baseball team scored six runs and held off several Limestone rallies to take a 6-4 victory over the Saints on Tuesday afternoon. Erskine improves to 12-0 on the season while Limestone slips to 7-5.

Erskine took the early lead as the Fleet scored two runs in the first inning and added another run in the third.  The Saints scored two runs in the fourth to cut the Fleet’s lead to one.  Erskine’s Chas Anthony continued his hot streak at the plate, hitting a two-run homer in the fifth to put Erskine back up by three. Limestone answered with one run in the sixth and seventh innings to cut the score to 5-4, but the Fleet responded with a run in the bottom of the seventh for the win.
The Saints were led at the plate by Matt Still (Moncks Corner, S.C.) who hit 1-for-4 with a double and one RBI. Ron Torrance (Sarasota, Fla.) was also 1-for-4 with one RBI.

Limestone’s Kyle Matheney (Spindale, N.C.) took the loss after allowing six runs in 6.1 innings. He struck out three of the Fleet batters. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) pitched the remainder of the game and only allowed one hit as he struck out two batters.

Anthony led the Fleet at the plate, going 4-4 with a home run and four RBIs. Matt Schneider and John Bolding were both 2-3 with two runs driven in. 

Alex O’Quinn picked up his first win of the season as he allowed three runs in six innings. Huitt Scarborough picked up his fourth save allowing one run in the last three innings.

Limestone travels to Greenwood, S.C., to play Lander University on Wednesday, February 20 at 4 p.m.
