LIMESTONE BASEBALL DEFEATS BARTON 8-4 |
WILSON, N.C.—The Limestone College Saints defeated Barton College 8-4 on Sunday in the final game of the series. Limestone improves to 7-4 overall and 2-1 in Conference Carolinas play as the Bulldogs fall to 5-6 overall and 1-2 in the conference. The Saints’ Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) pitched a complete game, only giving up nine hits and two earned runs. He also struck out six batters as his record climbs to 3-1 this season. Chris Hill took the loss after giving up 3 earned runs and 7 hits in the opening 5 innings. Matt Watson pitched one inning for Barton and Nick Nigito closed the game. Limestone scored a run in the first and second innings, and added three more in the fourth. Barton got a run in the fifth, but the Saints scored once more in the sixth and twice in the seventh. Barton responded with a single run in the seventh, and twice more in the eighth, but couldn’t come up with any more runs as Limestone won 8-4. The Saints’ catcher Kyle Brewer (Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.) was 2-for-5 with a double. Second baseman Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) was 2-for-3 at bat. Designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) hit 3-for-5 with an RBI and a double. Center fielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) hit 2-for-4 and had a stolen base. First baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) had two RBIs. Ron Torrance (Sarasota, Fla.) had an RBI while batting 1-for-2. The Bulldogs’ left fielder Michael Parker was 3-for-4 with 3 RBIs and a homerun. Third baseman Ryan McCleney was 3-for-4 at bat with 1 RBI. Limestone travels to Due West, S.C., on Tuesday, February 19 to face Erskine in a non-conference contest at 2 p.m. |
