LIMESTONE BASEBALL SPLITS WITH BARTON

WILSON, N.C.—The Limestone baseball team split its doubleheader against Conference Carolinas-rival Barton on Saturday afternoon. The Saints won the first game 9-5, but dropped the second game 5-2.
Limestone stands at 1-1 in conference play (6-4 overall) as Barton stands at 1-1 in the league (5-5 overall).

In game one, Limestone scored three runs in the second, and added five more in the third. Barton got a run in the bottom of the third and fourth, and two more in seventh to cut Limestone’s lead to 8-4. The Saints scored again in the eighth and the Bulldogs scored once more in the final inning as Limestone won 9-5.

Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, N.C.) earned the win for Limestone in game one as he pitched the first 6 1/3 inning with 2 strikeouts. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) finished up the remainder of the contest, only allowing 2 hits and striking out 1 batter.

Brandon Brinson got the loss for Barton after allowing 8 runs in the first 2 1/3 innings. Kramer Sneed pitched the remainder of the game for the Bulldogs and only allowed 3 hits and one run. He posted four strikeouts.

Third baseman Matt Still (Moncks Corner, S.C.) hit 3-for-5 with two RBIs and a double for the Saints. Second baseman Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) had a homerun and 2 RBIs while hitting 2-for-3. Center fielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) had 3 RBIs and was 2-for-5 at bat. Right fielder Josh Izokovic (Shelby, N.C.) had two RBIs.

Barton’s left fielder Michael Parker hit 3-for-4 with 1 RBI. First baseman Allen Corbett was 2-for-5 with 2 RBIs.

Limestone gave up three runs in the first in the day’s second game. Limestone got a run in the fourth, but the Bulldogs scored twice in the fifth. That Saints tried to come back in the seventh, but only scored once and lost 5-2.

The Saints’ Josh Joseph (Axton, Va.) pitched the first 4 2/3 innings, and gave up 4 hits and 4 earned runs as he was credited with the loss. Kyle Elliott (Shelby, N.C.) closed out the game for Limestone as he allowed one hit.

Hunter Meekins recorded his second win of the year as he gave up 2 earned runs, 2 hits, and recorded 2 strikeouts in the first 6 1/3 innings. John Anderson got the save as he played the remainder of the contest.

Limestone hit 2-for-19 at the plate as Barton was 5-for-24. Designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) and Still each recorded an RBI. Zach Boyette had 2 RBIs for the Bulldogs as he hit 2-for-3.

Limestone faces Barton tomorrow at 1 p.m. in Wilson, N.C.
