LIMESTONE BASEBALL EDGES LANDER 2-1

GAFFNEY, S.C.-- The Limestone College baseball team edged Lander University 2-1 on Thursday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. The Saints improve to 5-3 overall as the Wildcats slip to 3-4.

Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.)  picked up his second win of the season as he pitched the opening six innings and only gave up three hits. He also recorded five strikeouts. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) pitched 1 2/3 innings with two strikeouts. Brock White (Gaffney, S.C.) got his second save of the season has he only allowed one hit in the final 1 1/3 innings.

Daniel Hinchberger (Philomath, Ore.) took the loss for Lander. He recorded six strikeouts while giving up four hits.

The Saints scored their first run of the game in the bottom of the second. First baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) tripled, and catcher Kyle Brewer (Gruetli-Laager, Tenn.) followed up a fly ball to centerfield to bring Soden home.  Limestone scored once more in the fifth. Shortstop Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) got on base after being hit by a pitch, then stole second and advanced to third on an error by the Wildcat catcher. Left fielder A.J. Bsharah (East Kentwood, Mich.) hit a sacrifice fly to right field as Soden scored.

Lander tried to rally in the bottom of the eighth inning. With two outs, Josh Lovvorn (Bradley, S.C.) singled with runners on first and third to score T.J. Guinan (Annandale, Va.) The next Wildcat batter flied out to right field, and Lander was unable to get a hit in the ninth.

Limestone’s Soden was 3-for-4 at bat with one run scored, and had a stolen base. Anthony also had a stolen base.

The Wildcats’ Malcolm McLeod (Chapin, S.C.) had one stolen base during the contest.

Limestone opens Conference Carolinas play with a three-game series at Barton in Wilson, N.C., on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday's doubleheader is slated for 12 p.m., while Sunday's game will start at 1 p.m. Lander hosts Limestone on Wednesday, February 20 at 4 p.m. in Greenwood, S.C.
