MCSWAIN’S HOME RUN LIFTS LIMESTONE TO 14-13 WIN AGAINST AUGUSTA STATE |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) hit a three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Limestone College Saints to a 14-13 win over Augusta State on Sunday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. Limestone improves to 4-2 overall as the Jaguars stand at 3-4. Kyle Elliott (Shelby, N.C.) got the win for the Saints as he pitched the final 2 2/3 innings and only gave up two hits and recorded 3 strikeouts. Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) pitched 6 innings as Thomas Fekete (Aiken, S.C.) pitched the first 1/3 inning for Limestone. Liette recorded two strikeouts and only allowed five hits. Augusta State got off to a strong start with eight runs in the first inning, and followed that up with two in the second. The Saints got on the board in the second, as catcher Kyle Brewer (Greutli-Laager, Tenn.) singled to score designated hitter Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) Limestone cut the Jaguar’s lead to three as the Saints scored six runs in the third. Neither team scored again until the sixth inning when Augusta State’s Tony Baker (Dacula, Ga.) homered to make the score 11-7. The Jaguars went on to score two more runs in the next inning to increase their lead to 13-7. The Saints battled back in the seventh. Limestone had four runs to cut the score to 13-11 when McSwain came up to bat and hit a home run to drive in first baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) and centerfielder Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) A solid effort from Elliott and the Saints’ defense secured the 14-13 win for Limestone. Limestone’s McSwain was 4-for-4 at bat with three RBIs, a double, a triple, and a homerun. Brewer hit 4-for-5 and had 3 RBIs. Watkins and right fielder Josh Izokovic (Shelby, N.C.) recorded two RBIs each. Izokovic, shortstop Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.), and A.J. Bsharah (East Kentwood, Mich.) each had doubles. The Jaguar’s Baker and Alex Sickman (Evans, Ga.) were both 2-for-5 at bat, and both had 4 RBIs. Baker recorded two homers while Sickman had one. Jorge Viguez (Lawrenceville, Ga.) had 2 RBIs and a double. Limestone hosts Anderson University in a non-conference contest on February 12 at 2 p.m. The Jaguars return to Augusta, Ga., to host Belmont Abbey on Tuesday at 2 p.m. |
