LIMESTONE BASEBALL BEATS MARS HILL 16-7 |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—The Limestone College baseball team recorded its third straight win with a 16-7 victory against Mars Hill on Thursday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. Mars Hill slips to 2-4. Mars Hill started the game by scoring in the first inning, but Limestone (3-0) took an early lead with two runs in the second. The Lions tied the score in the top of the third. The Saints took the lead again with three runs in the bottom of the inning and didn’t relinquish it for the rest of the contest. Limestone had five runs in the fourth as Mars Hill scored two in the fifth, one in the sixth, and two in the eighth. Limestone had six more runs in the seventh. Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.) had seven RBIs for the Saints as Adam McSwain (Fallston, N.C.) and Matt Still (Moncks Corner, S.C.) each batted in three runs. Still was 4-for-4 at bat, Anthony was 4-for-5, and McSwain was 2-for-3. Still and Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) each scored three times, as McSwain, Kyle Brewer (Greutli-Laager, Tenn.), and Zach Watkins (Albany, Ga.) had two runs each. Michael Dobre (Pompano Beach, Fla.) was 3-for-5 at bat while Matt Oleski (West Seneca, N.Y.) was 2-for-4. Adam Atkinson (Weaverville, N.C.) drove in three runs. Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) picked up his second win of the season for Limestone as he pitched the first five innings. Thomas Fekete (Aiken, S.C.), Michael McAbee (Boiling Springs, S.C.), Ryan Resendez (Gastonia, N.C.) and Jordan Liette (Versailles, Ohio) each pitched one inning. Jonathan Bullington (Ararat, N.C.) took the loss for Mars Hill. Seven other pitchers saw time on the mound for the Lions. Limestone hosts Augusta State in a 3-game series this weekend. The Saints and the Jaguars play a doubleheader on Saturday starting at 12 p.m. and will play a single game on Sunday at 1 p.m. Mars Hill hosts Salem International on February 9-10. Saturday's doubleheader will begin at 12 p.m., and Sunday's contest will start at 1 p.m. |
