LIMESTONE BASEBALL WINS SEASON OPENER AGAINST LYNCHBURG |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—The Limestone College baseball team won its season opener 2-1 against Lynchburg College on Saturday afternoon at Bob Prevatte Field. The Saints (1-0) scored two runs in the eighth inning for the victory over the Hornets (0-1). Lynchburg put the first run on the board in the sixth inning. Ronnie LaBrie (Vinton, Va.) hit a double to score Cameron Grant (Lynchburg, Va.), who was on third. The Saints came alive in the eighth. With runners on first and third, outfielder A.J. Bsharah (East Kentwood, Mich.) bunted to score shortstop Dylan Anthony (Lincolnton, N.C.). Right-fielder Greg Dailey (Baltimore, Md.) stole third as Bsharah stole second during the next at-bat. The Hornets’ pitcher walked Saint second baseman Drew Lydon (White Plains, Md.) to load the bases. Limestone first baseman Phillip Soden (Inman, S.C.) had a sacrifice fly to score Dailey for the 2-1 lead. Saints pitcher Clayton Knight (Moncks Corner, S.C.) pitched the first six innings as he only gave up 4 hits and struck out 7 batters. Chris Zimmerman (Hendersonville, N.C.) saw action in 2 innings with 4 strikeouts, and Gaffney-native Brock White closed out the game for Limestone. Zimmerman picked up the win. D.W. Moore (Lynchburg, Va.) was the starting pitcher for the Hornets. He played for 5 innings, gave up 3 hits and had 5 strikeouts. Rich Glover (Williamsburg, Va.) pitched the next 2 1/3 innings, and gave up 2 earned runs. Joe Devlin (Ashburn, Va.) finished out the game for Lynchburg, and gave up one hit and one walk. Glover was credited with the loss. Limestone hosts Lynchburg again tomorrow at 1 p.m. at Bob Prevatte Field. |
