WOMEN'S SWIMMING SEASON PREVIEW

The Lady Saints have a lot to look forward to in 2007-08 as the squad returns six All-Conference honorees and one All-American. Last season, Limestone had its best finish ever at the Bluegrass Mountain Conference Championship as the team finished fourth out of 12 at the competition. The Lady Saints have continued to improve each season, and this year looks to be no different.

Juniors
While Limestone’s 2007-08 team has no seniors, its three juniors have had much success during their college careers. Carmen Adams (Conway, S.C.), Jessi Sullivan (Lancaster, S.C.), and Kelly Davidson (Kingston, Tenn.) have competed with the Saints since their freshman year. Davidson had a solid season in 2006-07 competing in the freestyle, backstroke, and individual medley events. Adams earned All-Conference honors in the freestyle and freestyle relays, as Sullivan was named All-Conference following her performance in the 200 and 400 medley relay. Sullivan holds school records in the 100 butterfly while Adams holds records in the 100 and 200 breaststroke.

Sophomores
In their first season with Limesotne in 2006-07, this year’s sophomore class helped break numerous school records. Brandy McCauley (Augusta, Ga.) picked up several wins as a freshman in the butterfly and freestyle events. Jenna Arington (Pittsford, N.Y.) set new records in the 50 and 100 freestyle, while Molly Reichwald (Atlanta, Ga.) broke records in the distance freestyle events. Donna Wickham (Tacarigua, Trinidad & Tobago) holds the records for the 100 and 200 backstroke. Arington, Reichwald, Wickham, and Marija Grubic (Split, Croatia) established new benchmarks for the relay events. Ines Speranda (Split, Croatia) didn’t compete last season, but should contribute this year.

Arington earned All-Conference honors in the backstroke and freestyle relay, Reichwald had solid performances in the 800 freestyle relay to be named All-Conference, and Wickham also earned All-Conference following her performances in the backstroke and relay. Wickham became Limestone’s first competitor at the NCAA Swimming Championships in 2007 as she obtained the “A” national cut in the 100 backstroke at the Savannah College of Art & Design Invitational in December 2006 and obtained a “B” cut in the 200 backstroke at the same meet. Wickham earned Honorable Mention All-American honors following her 10th-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke finals at the NCAA Division II Swimming Championships

Freshmen
Limestone’s roster features four freshmen: Madalyn Bernard (Jackson, N.J.), Shelley Hutcheson (Greenville, S.C.), Nina Svetlovics (Greenville, S.C.), and Renee Pouchet (Maraval, Trinidad & Tobago). Bernard was a varsity swimmer at Jackson Memorial High School in New Jersey. She will compete in the breaststroke event. Hutcheson will see action in the backstroke and freestyle contests. She was named MVP for her Team Greenville club squad in Greenville, S.C. Pouchet will look to make a splash in the backstroke events. She competed in the Pan American games last summer and has been a member of the Trinidad and Tobago national team since 1998.
