LIMESTONE TIES MOUNT OLIVE IN WOMEN’S SOCCER ACTION; LADY SAINTS HOST FIRST ROUND OF CONFERENCE TOURNAMENT |
GAFFNEY, S.C.—The Limestone College women’s soccer team and Mount Olive fought through 110 minutes and each came away with tie on Saturday afternoon. Both teams now post Conference Carolinas records of 5-2-4. The Lady Saints stand at 6-8-4 overall as the Trojans are 7-8-4 for the season. Limestone was also awarded the No. 4 seed in the upcoming conference tournament and will host Mount Olive in the first round. Brittany Owen (Pasadena, Md.) put Limestone up 1-0 in the 10th minute when she capitalized on a 20-yard free kick. Mount Olive's Kaysea Singular (Grandy, N.C.) equalized off of Kate Painter's (London, Ontario, Canada) cross into the box from the left side with only 13 mintues to play in the first half. Mount Olive took the 2-1 lead in the 60th minute with an unassisted goal from April Jacobs (Fayetteville, N.C.) Lady Saint Savannah Evans (Athens, Ga.) tied the score with eight minutes left as she blasted the ball into the net after a corner kick. Limestone held a 20-11 advantage on shots and a 6-4 edge on corner kicks. Lady Saint Brittany Clark (York, S.C.) had five saves during the contest while Jenn Sastre (Fayetteville, N.C.) had 11 for the Lady Trojans. Limestone hosts Mount Olive next Wednesday, October 31 in the first round of the Conference Carolinas Tournament at 2 p.m. at Saints Field in Gaffney. |
