LANDER EDGES LIMESTONE 2-1 IN WOMEN’S SOCCER

GREENWOOD, S.C.—Alexis Brothers (Charleston, S.C.) scored Limestone’s lone goal in a 2-1 loss to Lander University on Wednesday night in a non-conference women’s soccer match. The Lady Saints fall to 4-7-3 as the Bearcats improve to 9-2.

“Tonight was the hardest we’ve played all year long and everyone played with a lot of heart,” said Limestone Head Coach Tina Weaver. “We had an opportunity to get lead in the second half but couldn’t finish.”

Lander’s Stacy Copeland scored in the 31st minute to give her team the lead. Brothers equalized in the 57th minute. Copeland scored the go-ahead goal in the 89th minute for the 2-1 win.

Lander had 16 shots to Limestone’s five. Goalkeeper Brittany Clark (York, S.C.) recorded five saves for the Saints as Rachael Hine had three for the Bearcats.

Limestone hosts Coker College in a Conference Carolinas contest on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. at Saints Field. Saturday is also Senior Day as the Lady Saints recognize Brittany Owen, Kristina Silva, and Ashley Vaughan.
